Our Lead Ambassador Jane and Project Director Emma Leaper attended the King’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace in May, after Action Asylum was nominated by the Community Cohesion Unit at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. We’d like to thank Karl Bradley for the nomination.
Being recognised by the King, a lifelong environmentalist, felt especially fitting. Our work brings people seeking asylum and other local residents together through nature, and to have that celebrated at the Palace was encouraging.
There were beautiful rose gardens to wander, tea and scones to enjoy, and the King himself even made an appearance. Best of all, Jane and Emma got to meet people doing inspiring work in communities all over the UK.
As Jane put it:
“I remember watching from outside the gates of the Palace like so many other people. But this time it was me inside, exploring the rose gardens. It was one of the best days of my life.”
